DIY Gourmet Picnic BasketsThe joy of picnics in the warm weather. That’s a treat for me. My DIY gourmet picnic baskets are popular with my family and friends. Creating your own gourmet picnic basket is easy and here I will tell you how I do it. But, first things first. You need to start with a basket.

Good Looks, Good Value, Good Basket

Personally, I have several different picnic baskets. Choosing good quality is important just because it will hold up through many uses. But, I also like to have a basket that looks great. The basket will compliment my gourmet picnic meal. Imagine setting down a beautiful basket, then laying out a gourmet meal on the blanket or picnic table. Yep, the whole effect.

Some of my baskets have been gifts to me, but most of them I chose myself. Some of them are double-sided lids. Some are single lids. Some open up fully to reveal the meal. But all are good value and good looks.

Match the Basket to the Picnic Occasion

For many of us, picnics have occasions. We often celebrate things with a picnic. My daughter, born in the summer, always wanted a birthday picnic. We often have a picnic for summer holidays like Independence Day. Whatever the occasion, picnics are festive events.

So I like to match the style or looks of the basket to the occasion. Even if the occasion is because we want an afternoon in the sun, that is a festive event. Here are some choices of favorite looks for your own DIY gourmet picnic baskets.

Creating Your DIY Gourmet Picnic Basket

Picnics always require lots of extras besides the food. Creating your own DIY gourmet picnic basket is about what you include. Plates and eating utensils are one of those basics. If you like to have more elegant picnics, chose other than disposables. Flimsy paper plates and tiny plastic forks are not going to complement your elegant picnic.

Add in things like the napkins, wet cloths for clean up and glasses or cups. Set up your basic extras that will stay with the picnic basket. Remember to return them after you wash them. Your DIY gourmet picnic basket will have a great start for the next picnic. You will be ready to add the food and just a few additional items.

If you like to give picnic baskets as gifts, remember to include some gourmet food or extras. That makes your gift more complete.
